The external drive on my CC 4.0 linux laptop crashed so I installed CC
4.3 and SC 7.2.1 and added a new external Maxstor 1tb USB drive
formatted as ext3. I also have a mixed environment with a Macbook and
WinXP machines now. I use "MAX" on the Macbook as my CD ripper and
"Tag" as the metadata tagger, WinSCP and Putty on XP.
CC4.3 and SC 7.2.1 run ok and it reads from the CC external drive
without issues. I am having write and delete privelege problems using
Putty, WinSCP, and shared points mounted from both Macbook and XP.
They seem to work sometimes but some sequence of operations disables
it, saying it is a read only file system.
I've tried the basic variations to properly mount and share this drive,
with permissions (wide open), and various owners ("nobody", "root",
"squeezecenter"). Today I was able to rip maybe 10 or so CD's, then
tried to retag a few files and delete some. When I do this from the
Macbook and the WinXP machine I get "Read-only file system" on the
share.
The external USB drive is mounted as /dev/sda1 at /home/shared with
directories of "music", "playlists", and "artwork". I setup the drive,
permissions, and windows sharing using CC Console per instructions on
http://www.ulverston.myzen.co.uk/mini-itx/index.htm.

It seems to be intermittent for some reason as last night I could copy
files in and out from both Macbook and XP via the shares. Today I get
the violations. This is driving me nutz. Any ideas what I'm doing
wrong?
