According to your post, I understand that you share a linux drive via
"smbd" and access it in your windows.

I'm not sure it can help you or not, but I add similar problems with
the opposite setup (windows samba shared and accessed in a linux box).
To solve the encoding problem, I had to use all these options for
smbmount:

mount //192.168.1.123/MYDISK /mnt/smb/mydisk -t smbfs -o
username=xxxxx,codepage=cp850,iocharset=utf8,uid=1001,gid=1001

I think that sharing a folder with smbd requires you to tweak both
codepage and iocharset parameters...
