Ubuntu does not have a firewall that the user can easily configure and is set to not require user intervention. The Ubuntu "Firestarter" program is just a front-end GUI that allows you to configure the firewall but normally you don't need to touch it. I have never had to open ports and have run SlimServer 6.5.0 all the way up to SqueezeCenter 7.2.1 on Ubuntu 7.04, 7.10, 8.04 and 8.10.
I've seen a lot of posts lately with install problems on Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 when SC was installed from scratch as opposed to upgrading from an older version. Not sure what's going on here unfortunately. It used to be that AppArmor got in the way when it was first introduced in Ubuntu 8.04. Recent SC builds should handle AppArmor, but it may be worth searching the forum for fixes. -- Mark Lanctot Current: SB2, Transporter, Boom (PQP3 - late beta) Stored: Boom (PQP1 - early beta), SBC (beta - no battery) Sold: SB3, Duet ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56053 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
