I tried perl 5.10 on cc4.2 some time ago but found that SC would not
start.  I never bothered to fix as perl 5.10 had just been released.

I rescued the position by installing perl 5.8.8 which is known to work
well with all versions of SC.

Mike's guide is for perl 5.8.8.

You can remove perl 5.10 by deleting the new folder you created for it
and removing the symlink to the new perl.

You can then follow the same process to install perl 5.8.8.
