Friends >>> I posted this on the Ripping / Encoding / Transcoding /
Tagging Forum, but got no replies. So I thought I'd see if you good
folks had come across this issue and had any thoughts...

I've successfully used EAC to rip to .flac for ages with WINE on an
Ubuntu Hardy box, and I'm currently using EAC Ver 0.99 pb4. Normally,
track titles and track info had been printed in black, but suddenly all
the track info for every track (though not titles) was printed in red.
EAC stopped working: it would hang when a rip was started, and had to
be forced to shut down.

(This is not the well-known 'first track title is red' indicator that
EAC now uses to show there's a hidden track. Rather, the track titles
are all black, but all of them have all their info entirely in red
text.)

I did an uninstall-reinstall, which failed to rectify matters. All
track info still red. And if I go to the drive options and try to use
'Detect Read Features' or Autodetect Read Command', EAC hangs, and I
have to force a quit.

I tried installing EAC on my Ubuntu Hardy laptop. No joy: all track
info still red; and using ' Detect Read Features' or 'Autodetect Read
Command' again caused EAC to hang completely. So this is not a problem
with particular hardware.

However, I've now got EAC installed and working on yet another box that
runs Ubuntu Intrepid. I can use EAC to detect/autodetect the drive's
Read features. Yet the track info is still all red. The rips appear to
be OK; but I'm concerned that some fault I haven't spotted yet is being
flagged by the colour change.

I've searched for an explanation, and asked on the EAC forum, but I've
not found out why all the track info is being displayed in red. Does
anyone here have any experience of, or information about, this?

(Given that the issue appears to have started suddenly, and is more
crippling with Ubuntu Hardy, I'm beginning to suspect that an update to
a library file has broken something.)

Thanks in advance for any light you may be able to cast on this odd and
irritating matter.
