All it does (in my implementation) is to simulate a triangular loudspeaker set-up for headphone-listening. It basically implements small delays, crosstalk and filters. The delays shall simulate the different run times of a signal to both ears (eg. the signal of the left speaker takes longer to travel to the right ear). This also explains the crosstalk: The left speaker is heard by the right ear and vice versa. The filter affect the higher frequency range (above about 2kHz), where diffraction occurs at the torso, head and ear cup.
Whereas the first, the delay is similar for many individuals, the third (diffraction) is not. If the diffraction is not simulted very well, the sound is perceived from a wrong height, eg. over the head instead of in front. But, allthough it's not perfect, it eases to listen to good recorded music for much longer, since the music is not perceived as being originating in the head anymore... I like it very much... -- Hering ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hering's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6163 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45347 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
