Sprocket, I was able to get past this error. I totally uninstalled squeezecenter from my NAS and then reinstalled the latest version using ipkg. Unfortunately I have no insight into what caused the problem in the first place. The best I can surmise is that some conflicting code remained from the previous version. You're problem doesn't sound exactly the same, but possibly an uninstall, reinstall will do the trick.
