as i still coudnd't find out if the server is up to date (it is not my own server, sharing with my flatmate), i go for something completly different and switch to a qnap ts-109 II installation instead of a ubuntu system. this way it's much easier to install and maintain, and the qnap should be quite enough for my needs.
