Stuart, The backport patch you included is missing several key changes.
You need to take a diff between 25808 and 26720 of Slim/Display/Text.pm, Slim/Display/Lib/TextVFD.pm, Slim/Networking/Slimproto.pm and Slim/Player/SqueezeSlave.pm to capture all the changes that are in my patch.
