I am running SC 7.2 on a Mandriva 2008.0 machine. I used the complete
tar version due to several inconsistent Perl module/library versions
when trying the RPM. You should be able to get that working, since it
is largely self-contained. That said, MDV 2007.1 is getting mighty old.
Many updates in Perl. No more security updates either.

I do not recognize your messages, but have no idea how you got to where
you are getting these, so difficult to say much. You might look at the
Wiki, where there is a Mandriva-specific entry (though for even older
MDV I think).

I assume that Pat means that certain packages didn't get *installed* by
default with whatever path he took through the installer. I never have
that problem, but then, I don't use the "automated" options, as they are
designed for non-technical users--who are not going to be developers.
In any case, with the online repositories being automatically set up for
you, it is hardly "hard" to add anything else you need. Even Debian
doesn't automatically install the most critical development tool of all:
Emacs! :)
