I don't know the tools myself, but I'm sure the forums of a Linux
distribution might help, and as this won't be distribution-specific I
suspect you could ask on any of them.

In my experience the "Portage and Programming" forum for Gentoo is
inhabited by pretty technical chaps - that might be a good place to
start (http://forums.gentoo.org/). As is the nature of these things
they'll probably also suggest a different way of doing your backups,
which may or may not be what you're after!
