The final post in this thread has a solution which I've copied below.
It assumes that you have mounted your NTFS drive as /dev/sbd1.

You can find the exact mount point by using dmesg in your terminal.

Hi all, many thanks for all your help. 
i added the following string to fstab....and since then it's working
perfectly 

/dev/sdb1 /media/SOUND
ntfs    rw,allow_other,user,auto,exec,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0
