First impressions - I received a sample today of the Guruplug Server Plus and a JTAG Board.
- It looks much cooler than the Sheevaplug - shiny black plastic and a ring of LEDs around a colorful logo. :) - As expected, it came with Debian Lenny pre-installed. Note: I am told that the Sheevaplug still ships with Ubuntu Jaunty. This is unfortunate since Jaunty will reach EOL later this year and newer Ubuntu releases don't support ARMv5. Fortunately however, the Sheevaplug has a JTAG port and there are tools available to reflash it easily with Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, maybe others. - It is smaller than the Sheevaplug, but this is at the expense of a built-in JTAG port. Others will have to decide if they want to pay $40 for the external JTAG board. IMO, it's a requirement if you plan to do any mucking around since without it you have no console access to recover from something as simple as a typo in a network config file. - No signs of overheating. I'm currenty playing some FLACs (SbS 7.6) from a USB drive that draws power from a USB port. Networked via wired Ethernet. I've only had a few minutes to look at it and get it running. Later tonight I'll try to switch it to wireless. At some point I guess I'll get an eSATA drive...
