I'm a Linux newbie trying to keep a no-longer-supported headless Linux server (Centos 5, Epia 1GHz proc., 512 MB Ram) up-to date with the latest Squeezebox Server. I'm making progress, and have been able to uninstall previous SBS versions and install recent ones, but the behavior on the 7.5.x upgrades makes me wonder if I am having some conflicts or overhead that i am not aware of.
In particular, with the 7.5.x upgrades, I use SSH to delete the old .rpm file, download and install the new .rpm file, and change the http port to 9002 [necessary on this server]. I then use the web interface and it automatically runs the setup wizard where I enter the mysqueezebox.com account info and my music folders and then click 'Finish'. Now, it starts to load the SBS skin and seems to hang, but if I wait, after maybe 15 minutes or so the skin does load and the system is in the midst of a playlist scan that takes more than 45 minutes to complete (I only have about 30 playlists but there are 15,000 FLAC files and 2500 cover art files). When it is done, the SBS seems to work OK, although seems very slow. If I do a Clear Library and Rescan Everything, it takes more than three hours to run. So my question is, is it normal that the skin takes 15 minutes to load on its initial load after the upgrade, and are these scan times typical for a 1GHZ processor that has no other tasks than to run SBS? When I check the SBS status, I get the following: Version: 7.5.1 - r30836 @ Tue Jun 1 06:57:07 MDT 2010 ... Server HTTP Port Number: 9002 Operating system: Red Hat - EN - utf8 Platform Architecture: i686-linux Perl Version: 5.8.8 - i386-linux-thread-multi MySQL Version: 5.0.22 Are these the correct things for 7.5.1? I see some systems here are using Perl 5.10 - does the .rpm file automatically load the correct version or may there be legacy remnants on my system that are causing the slow performance?
