I've taken a couple of runs at getting headless MusicIP on linux to add
music from a remote Windows SMB share (my iTunes library folder) using
a folder mounted in fstab without success.

Is this something I should be able to figure out, or does MusicIP
actively ignore remote files?

Would it also ignore them if I figured out how to share over NFS from
my Windows box instead of SMB?

Sorry to ask the question about MusicIP here, but as far as I can tell
there's no better place anymore. On that topic, is there anything out
there that makes similarly interesting playlists so quickly and easily
(once it's working...)?

I try to 'Add Music' from /mnt/iTunesMedia (see fstab below) using the
MusicIP web page but it returns 0 songs.

Squeezebox scans the SMB mounted folder fine and finds all the files as
expected. The iTunes plugin also finds the iTunes library xml file on a
similar share and imports the playlists from it as expected.

All that's missing now is that lovely 'M' button beside the songs in
Squeezebox...

Random details:
Squeezebox 7.5.2 & headless MusicIP (v?.?) on Ubuntu x64 10.10
iTunes 10.? on Windows 7

Snippet from /etc/fstab:
------
# mount some smb shares
//windowsbox/Users/My\040Name/Music/iTunes /mnt/iTunes cifs
defaults,iocharset=utf8,credentials=/home/myuser/.smbcredentials,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,uid=1000,gid=105
0 0
//windowsbox/Tunes /mnt/iTunesMedia cifs
defaults,iocharset=utf8,credentials=/home/myuser/.smbcredentials,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,uid=1000,gid=105
