Sorry that I haven't been much help so far.  I'm curious, though.  When
I try to duplicate your error, I get the following warning (among
others):

    main::changeEffectiveUserAndGroup (948) Warning: Squeezebox Server must not 
be run as root!
--------------------

Do you not get the same?  Are you showing all of your error output?
