I use rsync to backup to an attached USB drive.  I have a small script
that runs in a cron job every night.

I'll post the rsync command it uses when I get home tonight.  If I
remember correctly, I was able to get it set up to copy changes and not
to remove files from the backup if they do not exist in the source.  I
also check that the backup drive is mounted to is mounted otherwise my
root drive gets filled up and everything comes crashing down.

It's an awesome utility and has made keeping a regular backup so easy. 
Now that drive prices have come back down to reasonable levels, I should
get a second drive and start rotating one offsite.
