I wanted to post an update to my Emotiva XDA-2 issues with squeezelite
and the raspberry pi. It all comes down to the issue being with the
Emotiva XDA-2 dac. The XDA-2 uses the CM-6631 chipset for usb and it has
been known for awhile that it has issues with alsa and negotiating the
correct sample rates. Others who have dacs with this chipset are having
the same issues. The only way to get the correct sample rate to play
with a track is to play it, stop, and replay. When I do get the dac to
play the correct sample rate and run squeezelite, playing tracks in
16/44.1 format does not sound all that great. The sound is slightly
distorted and scratchy. During my research, it was found that dacs using
the XMOS chipset works fine in linux and alsa. It was said that when
writing the usb audio class 2.0 driver for linux, it was tested against
the XMOS chipset. So it looks like my hunting for another dac has
started again and the Emotiva XDA-2 will have to go back. The Cambridge
DacMagic Plus looks like a good contender.
