At the risk of Parameter Bloat, what about another command line / SLOPTIONS parameter to specify the max / allowable sample rate(s)? If the option exists then use it and defer connecting to ALSA. If it doesn't then behave as now. This maintains backward compatibility, eases startup within the boot scripts and might reduce start failures due to conflicts with other ALSA apps?
