Triode, thanks for server switching, works great.

Off topic:
I've been looking a bit at my alsa config on the geode, outside
SBS/squeezeplay. I want to use espeak to say stuff (current IP address
or dateĀ…) since the machine is headless.
So I am switching to using the system device (w/ mixer). Hence I looked
into my alsa config, esp. resampling and buffers params. Now I seriously
doubt the real issue for the poor audio I usually experience via the
V-Dac is the CPU load due to transcoding. Buffer sizing/requests
synching on both Alsa and snd-usb-audio seem more likely culprits.
I have wandered a lot on the web regarding alsa and snd-usb-audio
config, to find only a little hard knowledge and a lot of noise. The
nrpacks=1 magic recipe comes to mind. I experienced with various alsa
configs that reason said should work, some did and some didn't, and none
really worked -yet- over the 16-24/44.1-96 range I am targeting for.
snd-usb-audio config seems to have some impact on the final result.
Besides my limited abilities, I suspect variations are due to the fact
alsa silently overrides the config if some limitation is met on one
parameter, plus the VDac is more or less happy with the USB feed when
playing. I wonder if it is possible to monitor at runtime the buffers
states of both dac and alsa, in order to better see which one is
starving/overflowing and causing the disruption?
