Hum. "Died, restarting" can effectively bring the machine to a crawl. Like with 2 instances of SBS running at the same time. I know really nothing about DBs, I think I had once an issue with corrupted DB files. I suppose purging MySQL, then reinstalling SBS (which in turn should pull MySQL) could be a way of removing tables but keeping all your prefs.
