Yes, the serial port is available and you can also run the ifconfig command. The serial port is configured at 115200 baud, 8 bits, no parity. For debugging there is no better thing than the serial por :-)
But if you don't have a serial cable then you could try to connect an Ethernet cable and the reboot the wandboard (by unplugging the power supply).
