I left the volume control in because it helped the bar look more visually balanced. Also, sometimes you can forget where you left the volume control. I might be tempted to disable the overlay volume pop-up in favor of this permanent one. Or, if not, to substitute the track position slider in the slot where I now have the volume control and keep the overlay pop-up volume as it is.
