The Raspberry Pi accesses my library via NFS. I don't know if the scan time would improve if the library was on an USB-disk.
It would most likely improve _dramatically_. Scanning over the network will always be slowed down by the connection. Plus the ReadyNAS is rather slow even as a NAS.
