Yes Clive you are correct.
I did remove the Toslink transceiver from the Wandboard and placed it on
a small separate board along with a coax output. So I re-used the
existing transceiver.
The Toslink SPDIF standard allows for maximum 96 kHz / 24 bits - 2
channel audio. This would be a bandwidth of about 12 Mbit/s. (The
transmitter on the Wandboard supports up to 16 Mbit/s.) 

Just to say that in theory 192 kHz is outside of the Toslink SPDIF
official spec and also outside of the Toslink transmitter's spec, but it
does work when playing files at this rate.
