The UDOO with Volumio and 1. default MPD and local drive attached sounded good, almost as good as our SBT Touch (feeding Toslink to the NAD M51) setup. 2. squeezlite without any system tuning measures (no rt-kernel etc.), streaming from server, sounded quite good too. 3. But. The UDOO board somehow locks up every 10minutes or so!?!? 4. I've the NEO X5 around. You run into issues at every corner. The device is sitting idle. And I'm not motivated to do anything with it. 5. Pretty similar audio results can be achieved with Nexus 7 via USB OTG and bit-perfect audio app, feeding the M51 !! That I consider a real value. ;) -- if you own that device already. Talking about stunning value. With all theses tiny ARM boards you run into kernel/driver/OS/app/firmware/HW issues and limitations at every corner. That's more than annoying and very time consuming. HW issues can't usally be fixed. You pretty much rely on folks doing the SW hacking for you. Some problems you'll never get fixed. And 6 months later there'll be a new HW revision fixing the inital issues. After shortest time you'll end up with another purchase... ...and new issues. So. I'm not sure we talk about great values here. Of course these device somehow work and squeezlite will be running. If you really look for a headless transport, it's IMO a better value to go for e.g. a NUC i3 from last year that currently runs at 150 (+ram+ssd) over here. Compatibility and quality is IMO much higher. You can use all kind of distros and bleeding edge kernels and drivers without much hacking. And these NUCs IMO also make a much better multi purpose machine such as a XBMC/netflix... media server or similar. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy.
