But sods law says anything is possible! ;) Maybe, disconnection of the hdmi output is causing jivelite to hang, and not allowing the binary to be replaced on the filesystem.... If you can, eliminate everything from the equation. If you could ssh in from somewhere else and leave the hdmi connected to the WB while you run the upgrade. I've upgraded jivelite, running headless, a hdmi has never been plugged into the WB, before boot or after it has been booted. Upgraded with jivelite outputting to an atached hdmi.
