It's not my intention to change the API. And afaik the current state of 7.8.1 
should no longer break any plugin. Anything doing so I would consider a bug.

It's my understanding that we did an "official" 7.8.0 release to have a little 
more room for larger changes in a 7.8.1. The API should not have changed so far.

Correct. I'm thankful for any 7.8.1 tester reporting bugs, but I wouldn't push 
it to anyone who did not decide to do so willingly.
