The primary purpose of dsdplay is to support PCM output of DSD for the
majority of LMS users, with "real" hardware players, so they can
actually play DSD tracks and get sound output. (And maybe someone with a
Touch that is capable of 192k with the EDO plugin, outputting DoP to a
DoP capable DAC.) 

The number of users with a squeezelite based client player is going to
insignificant compared to the above. But the whole point of having the
DSD->PCM and DSD->DoP functionality built-in to squeezelite, is so that
the back-end "transcoding" isn't required in that case.
