Point taken. Although if someone is going to tap into I2S signals, and connect an alternate codec, you'd hope that they would be able to handle SW changes and compilation. Otherwise that might not be an appropriate task. My suggestion was that it can be done in SW, and that potentially could be easier than soldering to some 0402 pads. It does not preclude that you still need to know how to read, investigate, and maybe know something about embedded development.
