I don't believe that's possible with git from makepkg I'm afraid.  See:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/600079/is-there-any-way-to-clone-a-git-repositorys-sub-directory-only
for the complexity of a sparse checkout...  Any suggestions gratefully
received though!

Edit - that is a lot of data - perhaps we need to see how it is hosted
again.
