I did install mc following your instructions. But mc doesn't run. See

Any further suggestions? I don't know if this is relevant, but I'm
logged into my picoreplayer using ssh via a Cygwin shell. I think I
might need X for Midnight Commander, so what I will try next is to
switch to my Linux box and log into my picoreplayer from a XTerm using
"ssh -Y"
