I realize this comment comes well after you asked the question, but it
is worth answering. It makes perfect sense that Triode used Arch. I've
used Arch for many years on small, low-powered devices (and I've built a
RaspberryPi-based squeezelite/jivelite system -- unfortunately before
Triode created this project, so I had to work it out for myself -- using
a displaylink touchscreen, which runs with very reasonable response
rates). Because you build it up from a minimal install, you only have
the pieces running that you need. In a low-power environment, it can
give you a reasonably full-featured OS that has only the parts you want.
Arch has a great community, so if anything goes sideways, you can
always ask a question and get a quick response from someone who has been
there before. Also, it is (somewhat) easy to learn and use. Finally,
because Arch has a very active community, there are many packages built
through the Arch User Repository (AUR) that allow you to easily get
obscure programs running quickly.
