I'm sill having trouble with "popping" audio from squeezelite when using
a USB DAC/AMP device.

System:

MSI WindPC 100: CPU is Intel Atom 230 @ 1.60GHz
Memory: 2.0G
OS: Ubuntu server 14.04.1 LTS, 3.13.0-41-generic #70-Ubuntu SMP i686
GNU/Linux
USB DAC/AMP: TEAC A-H01
USB version: 2.00

I'm now (after being nudged by Epoch1970) launching squeezelite via an
upstart script. I'm still having to run squeezelite under uid root and
my attempts to increase the rtprio don't seem to have any effect. I am
able to increase the niceness of the squeezelite process, though I'm
grasping at straws here. I don't really know if that should be helping.
Oddly, of the 4 threads squeezelite starts, only 3 get the new
niceness:

Code:
--------------------

  root 3250 3250 - -19 /usr/local/bin/squeezelite -o
hw:CARD=DEVICE,DEV=0 -d output debug -f /var/log/squeezelite/squeezelite.log -m
a4 b8 81 22 7a 01 -n SQUEEZENAS_SqueezeLite -s 127.0.0.1
  root 3253 3250 - -19 /usr/local/bin/squeezelite -o
hw:CARD=DEVICE,DEV=0 -d output debug -f /var/log/squeezelite/squeezelite.log -m
a4 b8 81 22 7a 01 -n SQUEEZENAS_SqueezeLite -s 127.0.0.1
  root 3254 3250 45 - /usr/local/bin/squeezelite -o
hw:CARD=DEVICE,DEV=0 -d output debug -f /var/log/squeezelite/squeezelite.log -m
a4 b8 81 22 7a 01 -n SQUEEZENAS_SqueezeLite -s 127.0.0.1
  root 3255 3250 - -19 /usr/local/bin/squeezelite -o
hw:CARD=DEVICE,DEV=0 -d output debug -f /var/log/squeezelite/squeezelite.log -m
a4 b8 81 22 7a 01 -n SQUEEZENAS_SqueezeLite -s 127.0.0.1

--------------------

..and oddly enough, it's the thread that squeezelite successfully sets
to rtprio 45 that runs at nice 0.

This system isn't exactly brimming over with horsepower. With a CPU
intensive task running (minidlna rescan consuming ~80%-90% of CPU cycles
according to top) LMS+squeezelite still produces listenable audio, but
with these occasional "popping" artifacts.

I'm a little confused if the USB ports on the WindPC are USB1 or USB2.
This is what I get when I tail /var/log/syslog after plugging in the
TEAC:

Any suggestions as to what I ought to try next to iron this out?
