Hi CommanderROR and Greg,

I think a restart with old states is possible.
I did some tests - and obviously all states are stored/remembered by the
LMS server.
It is possible to check the volume, play-state (play, pause, stop).

I did following on the pCP-console:
a) check the status of volume
printf "<mac adress of pCP> mixer volume ?\nexit\n" | nc <ip of LMS>
9090 - result: ... mixer volume 5
b) change the volume
printf "<mac adress of pCP> mixer volume 30\nexit\n" | nc <ip of LMS>
9090
printf "<mac adress of pCP> mixer volume ?\nexit\n" | nc <ip of LMS>
9090 - result: ... mixer volume 30

c) after a hard reset (power off) - check the status again
printf "<mac adress of pCP> mixer volume ?\nexit\n" | nc <ip of LMS>
9090 - result: ... mixer volume 30 (bingo!)

I did the same for:
printf "<mac adress of pCP> stop\nexit\n" | nc <ip of LMS> 9090
printf "<mac adress of pCP> start\nexit\n" | nc <ip of LMS> 9090
printf "<mac adress of pCP> pause\nexit\n" | nc <ip of LMS> 9090

--> after a hard rest
printf "<mac adress of pCP> mode ?\nexit\n" | nc <ip of LMS> 9090

--> before "stop" -- after "stop"
--> before "start" -- after "start"
--> before "pause" -- after "stop" (!!!)

I assume (I didn't check it) that this works for power on/off, too.

Hope this helps.
