This is why I keep things to myself now. I'm not complaining.... I work
around problems.

That's the point. You will hit this in the real world. It may take days
or weeks, but you will hit it, with IO from a local USB drive connected
to the Pi. Which is why I choose to use NAS with the Pi's, rather than a
local USB drive. My dd'ing whole hard drives just accelerates hitting
it.....
