In most cases yes minor upgrades have usually gone well just installing
on top of each other .

7.8 was the first comunity release ( not headed by logitech ) 7.8.1 is
the bugfix of that . It gets regular bugfixes

7.9 is the branch where all new functions gets tried out a real beta .
But if you go that way make sure to upgrade it sometimes to test new
stuff .

My experience is that the basic stuff works well in 7.9 better than ever
I think .if something gets broken it's usually the new stuff .
And sometimes long standing buggy behavior gets fixed , but it can be a
surprise as some issues are so old that folks have worked around them
cleverly ( cue sheet scanning got an overhaul  for example ).
