ItÂ’s been a while, but finally I consider the rebuffering issues solved. Apparently the actual UPGRADE from Ubuntu Server 12.04 to 14.04 caused the problems - not running LMS on 14.04 that is, but the actual UPGRADE. I did a clean install of Ubuntu Server 14.04.2 and LMS 7.8.1.
