I am using pCP 2.01 with an ES9023 I2S DAC using the generic driver, basically it´s working (and sounding fine).
Yet today I have discovered a strange behavior: I had some HDCD-cds which I converted to 24/44.1 (using dbPoweramp). Since HDCD only has 20Bit of resolution actually 4 of the 24Bit shouldn´t be in use. When converting you can choose if 6dB of digital gain should be used, the problem occurs only with HDCDs making use of the "peak extension" feature where you do NOT use the +6dB option when converting to avoid clipping. Now I am playing two files containing the same song in different formats: a) 16Bit/44.1kHz containing the HDCD information, using "peak extension" b) HDCD-decoded version of the above file, +6dB not used. When measuring these two files using the DR-plugin with foobar they have exactly the same peak level and dynamic range. When playing these two files with my usual setup (SBT & USB DAC) they appear to play at exactly the same volume. When playing it with my RPi/ES9023/pCP2.01 b) is half as loud as a) (perceived, not measured). Any ideas of what is happening? Thanks for your input, Oliver ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -ol-'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=60085 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105018
