I just upgraded my Ubuntu from 15.04 to 16.04, and found this exact same
behaviour on my previously working LMS 7.8.1. I have now upgraded to the
latest nightly (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9) and
everything started working again nicely. Didn't even need a reboot.

>From reading the thread above (most of which went over my head), it
seems that Michael managed to fix a Perl version conflict, which I think
was what I was experiencing after upgrading to 16.04.

While I was having the problem, I had run this command:

/usr/sbin/squeezeboxserver --d_startup --debug server

And saw this in the output:

Module [DBI] failed to load:
DBI object version 1.634 does not match $DBI::VERSION 1.616 at
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.22/DynaLoader.pm line 210.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/DBI.pm line 268.
Compilation failed in require at (eval 11) line 1.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at (eval 11) line 1.

And keeping in mind I am a complete Linux noob, I interpret the above as
being a version conflict, possibly related to Perl, hence I ended up
here in the forums and thought I'd give the latest nightly a stab.

Oh, and huuuuuge ups to Michael & everyone else involved for keeping
this platform alive. YOU ROCK! Two questions:
-how can I buy you guys a coffee? :) :) :)
-is there a sticky thread or RSS feed or page somewhere to keep up to
date with the work you are doing? I had a quick one-minute look, so
forgive me if it's somewhere obvious and i didn't find it.
