It should be noted that with adding diskmount options to pCP, our team has done quite a bit of testing of attaching hard disks/usb sticks to various rpi Boards.
If you are seeing missing partitions, or getting SD card errors or corruption. Then you seriously need to investigate your power supply. Never attach a hard disk without an external power supply on it.
