Hi Paul, No I think you need not to have the DAC+ installed, if you install lirc the defualt gpio cannot be changed untill after Pcp boots, which it does but you cannot access it by any remote means (I think whatever output squeezelite is set to). You can setup Pcp on another system without DAC and then put sdcard into one that does.
