Hi all,

I'm new to this forum but did read a lot of useful stuff here

I encounter a very strange problem with my RPI3 / PicorePlayer 3.02 /
Ian's FIFO II kit / AK4495SEQ DIY built dac
Started with version 2.x on a RPI2B and it worked flawlessly (I2S
generic setting as audio device).
Since upgrading to RPI3 I noticed that sometimes the FIFO II kit
couldn't lock onto some samplerates.
Behaviour was very wierd since this didn't happen all the time.

For now I experience troubles with playback 48kHz, 96kHz and 192kHz
files. All other samplerates do work, including DSD256 and PCM 384kHz.
If looking at the FIFO II board you can see if buffer is empty (red led)
or if it's ok (green led).
The led switches immediately to red when playing a 48/96/192kHz file,
and back to green if switching to another samplerate.

Last Monday I looked at audio device settings and saw that the device
was set at "Analog Audio", while hardwarecard was set as rpisndhifiberry
I switched audio device to I2S: generic hifiberrydac+ (pro), which I
think is the apropiate driver to use, and from that moment on I couldn't
get ANY samplerate to lock. Buffer on FIFO II stayed empty.

Switching back to analog audio didn't do the trick, even when putting
the correct soundcard within alsa.
I needed to reflash image on microsd to get it to work again. Very
strange behaviour.

===========================

Yesterday:

For the moment my setup ONLY works when setting Highest samplerate at
176400 and providing some (doesn't matter which ones) upsampling
parameters.

Very curious that still 48kHz, 96Khz and 192kHz won't work.

Before I could play all kind of samplerates, from 44.1 to 768, without
setting max samplerate and without providing upsampling settings. Not
sure if PCP did downsample everything above 192kHz to 192kHz though.

I replaced TCXO's on DualXO II board, doesn't affect behaviour at all.

At first I didn't notice the FIFO II buffer leds because they weren't
"at sight", but, at the end I tested with
PCP2.04/2.05/2.06/3.00/3.01/3.02 and fifo buffer keeps EMPTY except when
playing native 176,4kHz material.
No Maxrate configured and no upsampling configured.

When max sample rate set at "192000", including upsampling configured:
NO sound, Fifo buffer EMPTY
When max sample rate set at "176400", including upsampling configured:
Everything plays EXCEPT 48kHz and 96kHz.
When max sample rate set at "44100,88200,176400", including upsampling
configured: Everything plays INCLUDING 48kHz and 96kHz

Anyone has a clue? Is my RPI3 defective and ONLY outputs 176,4Khz, OR is
FIFO II defective and only accepts 176,4kHz?

I'm clueless and out of options :(

Regards,
Alex Bartels
