The team has already put the tools in place with the addition of Samba. An 8G USB stick on the pi being shared via Samba would enable the update image to be stored, then the current configuration could be stored via the existing command, then as Murphyprecht suggests, an update script would format the SD card, copy the image over and even if only the WiFi settings were restored the rest of the settings could be made via the web pages after a reboot. And I kept saying to myself 'Why add Samba, it is only a player'. Brilliant idea Murphyprecht, would save all the disconnecting from the HiFi system, removing the power supply, fiddling with network cables etc. First world problems I'll happily admit, but an 8Gb USB stick is only a few bucks and it could save a lot of fiddling.
