Toke me a while to figure out, but the way you handle the wifi's SSID
name generates errors.

Started today for the first time with your image, but no matter how i
could not get it connected to my Cisco 2602E accesspoint with SSID name:
(-_-)

Checking wifi... wifi is on
Found wifi: device vlan0
Standby for scan of available networks...
Set to try a few times to obtain a lease.
Attempting auto connection with (-_-)
SH: SYNTAX ERROR: UNEXPECTED WORD (EXPECTING \")\")
Tried al kinds of solutions but none worked.

Did a clean install, this time with latest original raspbian version:
"2017-01-11-raspbian-jessie.zip" and wifi was working as suposed to be.

So it had something to do with your image of piCorePlayer (tested both
versions 3.10 and 3.11)

As it turn out your image can't proces SSID that include: ( )

Tried different SSID names but all ended in error

(-_-)

@(-_-)@

s(-_-)s

Just changed name to *-_-* and no problem at all.

So please check the way you handlle the logon procedure in parsing SSID
and belonging password
