Maybe M2P "run LMS without mySB.com" is different?
Everyboy can create their own update checker. Just parse some XML. Therefore the two systems can obviously behave totally different.
M2P IMHO is based on Raspbian, which would be able to use the .deb package. While pCP is based on TinyCore Linux, using a custom built LMS package based on a tar ball.
