I was always wondering if having multiple piCorePlayers with the same hostname would cause a problem on the network. In preparation for an issue we generate a unique shortname in the following form.
pCP-2B-b87d33 This can be found by [Main Page] in [Beta] mode > [Diagnostics] > [Raspberry Pi]. The problem with using the MAC address is RPi0 and RPi0W don't have inbuilt Ethernet so they get the MAC address from their USB wifi adaptor. So it can change if someone swaps the wifi adaptor, slightly ugly. I believe RPi's do have a unique ID that probably could be used instead. The next gotcha is if we implement zero config, and the hostname will be unique and you won't know the unique ID without access to your RPi. Catch 22. Do we actually have a problem with the current setup? regards Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106755 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
