(I'm not sure I want to eliminate the SD in the server, though. USB booting is fine but there is no real performance advantage AFAIK and yanking out the USB cord can have dire consequences.) Yes, there is 'PiNet' (http://pinet.org.uk) that is available for net booting, but it is for classroom management and based off an ubuntu server. So it's a bit off-base for me, I'd rather tinker with dnsmasq on raspbian for the server. I have a vague understanding of tftp boot (and the boot process in general) and initially I missed the fact we need 2 partitions, not only the root partition. I am sort of tempted to use iSCSI instead of NFS, although I'm not certain it will be that manageable (iSCSI likes fixed IPs and is rather blocky for what I know). If I end up with something workable I will post here for sure. Thanks.
