Would you get those characters when running LMS from a different platform (PC or Mac)?
I don't think the issue is the font. The references you found most likely apply to the Squeezeplay based devices. But for display on the Classic I thought we had a more or less complete font. The problem here is that it requires a Perl module which might be missing from pCP.
As a secondary issue the time on the PCP home page doesn't display correctly - I'm stuck in 1970 so it's not picking up the time at bootup.
