My 20x04 5V HD44780 display arrived and I hooked it up to a Pi Zero W. I connected it to the GPIO pins given in Balázs' config file and used the file as it is. I also followed all other installation steps described in the wiki.
I get the display to light up and in the first and third line all pixels are lit. Line 2 and 4 are dark. I am, however, not getting anything else displayed. Not the welcome message and not anything else. I checked all GPIO connections and can't find a problem there. lcdproc-server listens on port 13666 and I can talk to it with telnet. Is the 3v3 output of the pi zero not enough for the display understand hi/lo? What can I do the debug and hunt down my problem? Any help appreciated.
